Hey everyone and welcome, today we will be talking about the film Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. Fun Fact, This film is dedicated to the original director of the first two movies, Ivan Reitman, who passed away in 2022. This film came out in 2024 and stars McKenna Grace, Paul Rudd, and Carry Coon and was Directed by Gil Kenan. So without further ado let’s get right into it.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire sees the Spengler family, now in New York teaming up with some of the original Ghostbusters to take down an ancient god and prevent a second ice age.

Ghostbusters is an action comedy. It has similar vibes to Ghostbusters, Goosebumps, or Beetlejuice.

I am not a die-hard Ghostbusters fan but I enjoy the movies so I said why not watch this one. I must say when I watched it I was laughing throughout the movie and had a blast with the movie and thought it was fun. I thought everyone else in the theatre was having fun too until I heard this man behind me while I was walking out say these movies are just getting worse and worse and so not everyone had fun but I did.

This movie has ghost busting but I feel like it has less ghost busting than the other ones or maybe less time chasing ghosts and instead tries to move the franchise forward by starting to research these ghosts more and figure out what to do with them instead of adding them to this storage device which clearly doesn’t have enough storage. I enjoyed the research into these ghosts and trying to make sense of a better solution to deal with them.

There was a storyline with a ghost girl named Melody that was a good addition but I did wish we learned more about what happened to her. Her introduction tells us that she was murdered with her family by being burned alive but I really wanted to know why her family was targeted. I was so mad that she betrayed Phoebe and I’m glad she had a change of heart in the end but my god you could’ve made up your mind sooner.

The fire-master was such a cool addition to the film and I loved them expanding the lore about who exists in this world. To be honest I thought Nadeem’s grandmother’s ghost was going to come back as a ghost and save the day but I’m glad that he got his life together and saved the day.

I will say that I wish they got to the big bad quicker, like we did get a lot of time with this mysterious orb and I did get to the point where I was like ok can we just release the demon god thing because I’m curious. I did think it was a smart move for the franchise to use this god to destroy the containment box that the ghosts were in to help justify why the Ghostbusters will have to stay around and how they’ll be relevant in the future, no matter if the mayor is a hater and wants them out of his city.

Like I said earlier I thought the movie was funny and while I think most of the cast contributed to it the two who were really making me laugh were Kumail Nanjiani and Paul Rudd. I’m glad they included these characters because they made the movie more fun for me.

We get most of the Ghostbusters from the original film back in this one and I really wish we could’ve gotten the entire crew because I want to see Rick and Sigourney back in action. After the last movie I thought with them teasing Sigourney, she would make an appearance in this one. I was however happy with the ones that we got and I feel like they added them into this film and made them useful and didn’t have them for pure nostalgia. I like how the OG members are all doing different things but if there’s a big baddie, they can come together to try and stop it.

The last movie takes place in Ohio and while I was glad to see people return from that movie it was funny that they expected me to believe that everyone from Ohio just somehow managed to get their butts to New York. I know they had their reasons in the movie but I was like how convenient but I enjoyed them in the other movie so I decided to just be glad to see them again.

My favorite part of this movie was McKenna Grace who plays Phoebe. She is in my opinion the reason this family got back into ghost hunting after her grandfather but also is super smart and really has a knack for capturing ghosts and finding solutions. Yea, she trusted the wrong person in this movie but who doesn’t make mistakes? I’m glad that she didn’t let anyone deter her from what she knew she was meant to do, be a ghostbuster.

Ghostbuster: Frozen Empire proves that you are never too young or too old to be a ghost buster. This film expands the universe slightly and is a lot of fun.
